Ann kite yo pale (Let them speak): best practice and lessons learned in communication with disaster-affected communities, Haiti 2010

This paper attempts to capture some of the community communication work implemented by humanitarian actors following the 2010 Haiti earthquake and to evaluate the success of this work from the perspectives of those affected by the disaster as well as the subsequent cholera outbreak. The significant role of local actors in the response is also examined, in addition to the increased use of mobile phone and web-based technology. Field research was conducted in February 2011 through focus groups, face-to-face interviews and the collation of existing monitoring and evaluation efforts. From the research, successful models, projects and approaches have been identified.
